        SVHS Honor Roll -- We are pleased to announce the reinstatement of the SVHS Honor Roll.  Students have been identified based on their weighted Fall 2012 semester grades.  The breakdown is as follows:
        • SVHS Superintendent’s Honor Roll, 4.0 and above - 95 students
        • SVHS Principal’s Honor Roll, 3.5-3.99 - 222 students
        • SVHS Dragon Honor Roll, 3.0-3.49 - 231 students
        The lists are posted in the office and in the library.  Stop by to see YOUR name on the Honor Roll.    Don’t forget to note this as an honor on your academic resumes and college applications.  Congratulations Dragons on your academic achievement!

        Free Tutoring for geometry and algebra on Wednesday, February 22, after school in J7.  You must sign up Tuesday, February 21 by 3:00 p.m.

        Spring EnviroLeader Internship Program -- Do you want to help the local environment in Sonoma?   Do you love being outdoors?   Are you interested gardening?  If so, the Sonoma Ecology Center is now hiring for its Spring EnviroLeader Internship Program.   Interns work 8 hours a week from February 29 to June 2 and earn a $400 stipend while learning about restoration and organic farming.  Come to the College & Career Center to pick up an application.   Applications are due Wednesday, February 22.

        Attention Convention Delegates! -- Choose your states by attending the meeting in J9 at lunch on Thursday, February 23.  Send one person from your group to choose, and it is first come first serve so make sure to get there on time!  Thank you! 

        Pennies for Patients -- For the next two weeks, February 17 – March 2, our school will be participating in the “Pennies for Patients” program which will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Please bring all change and other donations to your Period 4 class.  The 4th Period that raises the most money will win a pizza party!  Please join the fight against blood cancer.

        Are You Looking For a Job?
        -- We do have some part-time employment opportunities currently available.  If you are interested, you need to submit your resume to the College & Career Center.  Only students with resumes on file will be considered.  If you need help with a resume, we are happy to offer support in the College & Career Center during A+ and/or at lunch.

        Speaking of Jobs… -- The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn is looking for several part-time “Pool Bar Assistant Servers”.  Students must be 16 years of age, personable, and able to interact with guests.  The positions will be open until filled.  Applications are being accepted online only.  For more information go to www.fairmontcareers.com .  (Please note, although the position is listed as “full time” and “high school graduate”, The Fairmont is looking to hire SVHS students.) 

        Are You Interested in Preparing for the SAT? -- Revolution Prep is offering a second SAT prep course on campus beginning March 26 leading up to the May 5 SAT exam.  Revolution Prep’s group courses are half the price of other major companies and scholarships are available!  Revolution Prep has received very positive feedback with an average 200 point score improvement.  If you are serious about improving your SAT score, don’t let this opportunity pass you by!  Call 1-877-REVPREP for more details or visit the College & Career Center for more information.

        SVHS Scholarship Night #2 -- SVHS Scholarship Night #2 for Seniors will be on Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pavilion.  There will be many new local scholarships available.  Please continue to check the high school website and updated lists available in the Counseling Office and the College & Career Center.

        Volunteer Opportunity at La Luz -- Bilingual students are needed to help tutor adults in academic areas who are trying to earn a high school GED.  Bilingual greeters, interpreters, and screeners are also needed to help clients complete their taxes.  For more information please call La Luz Center at 938-5131.

        COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER APPLICATION DUE DATES (FEBRUARY):
        • Sonoma State Applicants -- Be sure to check your student portals regularly.  MANY students have supplemental financial aid forms due February 27.  Failure to send these verification forms may result in no financial aid.  Check under “self service,” then “to do list” at the bottom of the second column.  If you need help, stop by the College & Career Center.   Please remember to check student portals for ALL of your schools regularly.
        • Summer Session Art Program -- Applications are now available for the 26th session of the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA).  The four-week summer session in Valencia, California offers programs in Animation, Film/Video, Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts.  A comprehensive fee of $1,500 covers room, board and tuition.  Financial aid is available.   Applications must be postmarked by February 28.  To obtain an application or for more information visit www.csssa.ca.gov.
        • Buick Achievers Scholarship Program applications due Wednesday, February 29 (apply online/Seniors).
        • North Bay DHIA Agricultural Scholarship applications due Wednesday, February 29 (paper applications to Counseling/Seniors).

        ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MARCH:
        College Night for Juniors -- College night for Juniors and their parents is just around the corner.  Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pavilion.

        Attention Seniors -- The “Fabric of Society” 4th Annual Essay Competition is now under way.  At least one Sonoma Valley High School Senior will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship for his/her 600-800 word original creative essay based on a quote from noted writer Maya Angelou.  For more information, stop by the Counseling Office or the College & Career Center.  Complete contest rules and entry forms are available at www.ejdelarosa.com  Applications must be emailed or postmarked by Thursday, March 1.


        COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER APPLICATION DUE DATES (MARCH):
        • SRJC Summer Healthcare Institute applications  due Thursday, March 1 (application online, Sophomores/Juniors).
        • California Strawberry Scholarship due Thursday, March 1 (apply online/Seniors.)
        • Fabric of Society essay competition ($2,000 scholarship) applications due Thursday, March 1 (apply online/Seniors.)
        • Sons of Italy Academic and Foreign Language Scholarship applications due Thursday, March 1 (paper application to counseling/Seniors.)
        • All Seniors -- Don’t forget to complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA).  If you need help, stop by the College & Career Center.  Money is available for qualifying  Seniors going to both junior colleges and 4-year colleges or universities.  The deadline is usually March 2, although institutions may vary.  Also, the California Grant (Cal Grant) Verification deadline is definitely Friday, March 2.  If you haven’t already done so, fill out the pink card available in the College & Career Center or the Registrar’s Office.
        • 10,000 Degrees College Support Program applications due Friday, March 2 (paper application due to College & Career Center/Sophomores.)
        • Students Rising Above college support program applications due Sunday, March 4 (apply online/Juniors).
